Around the same time that Barossa Boy Wines was launched, little Tilly, the Boy’s first child, was born. She’s a seventh-generation Burge of the Barossa terroir, yet her own character is as unique as a single vintage. This Riesling is a tribute to the wild haired, spirited girl and all her stories yet to be told.
2024 Vintage Summary
The 2024 vintage in Eden Valley delivered a return to balance following several years of climatic extremes. A mild spring and early summer provided ideal conditions for flowering and steady canopy growth. Rainfall was moderate, ensuring healthy soil moisture without excessive vigour. As harvest approached, cool nights and warm, even days promoted excellent flavour development and retention of natural acidity. Picking commenced in early March under near-perfect conditions, resulting in Rieslings that display pristine citrus and blossom aromatics, purity of fruit, and finely etched mineral drive—hallmarks of an exceptional Eden Valley year.
Winemaking
A wonderful example of old vine dry-grown hand-picked Riesling harvested at optimal ripeness in the cool of the morning. Gentle whole bunch pressing ensured all the natural flavours were preserved before the commencement of fermentation. Fermentation was controlled at low temperatures to aid in aroma retention and intensity.
Tasting Notes
This Eden Valley Riesling opens with vibrant aromas of lime, green apple and white blossom, layered with hints of wet stone and honeycomb. The palate is lively and pure, balancing citrus brightness with fine minerality and a touch of flint. The finish is long, refreshing, and irresistibly moreish.
