2023 Corryton Burge Cornelian Bay Pinot Noir 750ml
Nestled on the Derwent River, Cornelian Bay is where our mother Helen grew up frolicking in the cool Tasmanian waters. As a proud Tasmanian, our Mother always wanted to produce wines from her home state to honour her heritage. This wine is a reminder of the importance of family and the special bond between our family and Tasmania.
TASTING NOTES
Ruby red with purple hues, mid-intensity. Aromas of cherry, black forest cake, a hint of stalky green, leather and subtle char. There is a flinty wet stone aroma mixed up with sauna-like wet cedar wood. Underneath this is a layer of graphite/pencil lead-like characters. Really complex and curious aromas. The palate is all Pinot, cherry and chocolate with hints of stalky tannins and rose petal characters. mid-weight tannins and full mouth-filling sweet fruit. The subtle use of oak has left the palate with predominately fruit characters with a hint of smoked metwurst. A mid-weight wine, albeit on the bolder side of many Tasmanian Pinot Noirs.
REGION
Sourced from the Coal River Valley region where the cool climate terroir produces classic and prestigious Pinot Noir.
VINTAGE SUMMARY
Coal River lived up to its reputation of being very dry , with basically no rain during the year so irrigation was of critical importance. The growing season was very mild with long slow ripening of all varieties. The Pinot Noir suffered from the dry conditions with growers across the region reporting up to 40% yield reduction , however grape flavours were very intense , leading to powerful wines with great fruit intensity, lovely varietal characters and very fine tannins.
MATURATION
Matured in 100% French oak Barriques (225 ltr) for 13 months.
