MARTHA MAE
2019 SPARKLING PINOT NOIR CHARDONNAY
Tasting Notes
This elegant sparkling wine glimmers in pale gold, featuring a refined bead and light mousse. It exudes fresh aromas of wildflowers, crisp apples, and a hint of coastal brine, complemented by rich undertones of vanilla cream and almond pastry. The palate reveals a sophisticated array of white peach, subtle green apples, and a trace of fresh strawberries. With four years of ageing on yeast lees, it gains complexity and layers of toasted brioche and marzipan. The finish is crisp, marked by a lively natural acidity, showcasing the wine's refined purity and graceful finish.
In tribute to our great-grandmother, Martha Mae, a paragon of resilience and culinary mastery, comes this Tasmanian Sparkling Wine. Aged gracefully for three years on lees, it mirrors her strength, independence, and the joyful spark she brought to every family gathering.
VINTAGE SUMMARY
The 2019 vintage in Tasmania was characterized by favourable conditions that produced high-quality grapes with exceptional varietal characteristics. The season started with a cooler spring, slightly delaying budburst but ensuring a steady growth. The summer was warm, avoiding extreme heat, which helped preserve the grapes' natural acidity. Occasional timely rainfall during the season maintained vine health and supported balanced growth. Harvesting began in late March and extended into early May, allowing for optimal fruit ripening and flavour development.
MATURATION
Cool fermentation in stainless steel, followed by 4 years maturation on lees.
CELLARING
Drink now - 5-10 years.
